Charles LeGeyt Fortescue, born at York Factory, Manitoba, 1876, son of chief factor of Hudson Bay Company-was the first electrical engineering graduate of Queen's University.

After graduation Fortescue joined Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing Company at East Pittsburgh and attained universal fame for his contributions to the engineering principles and analysis of power transmission and distribution systems. He is especially noted for development of polyphase systems analysis by the symmetrical components method. He made his way, evenutally, to MIT where he became a very well known and respected professor.

Its fascinating that Cecil Lewis Fortescue born 1881 also became a Professor of Electrical Engineering in London University, in the same period. One wonders if they heard about each other?

He was first cousin to the Hon. Arthur Wellesley, later the great Duke of Wellington.

In 1788 he became Ulster King-at-Arms. Heraldry is known to have existed in Ireland by the 13th century, imported by the English conquerors. Some traditional Celtic symbols have been incorporated in the arms of some families. The office of Ulster Herald was created by Edward VI.

Lately at Cullenswood, near Dublin, in the 70th year of his age, Rear Admiral Sir Chichester FORTESCUE, Knt, Ulster King of Arms. He was third son of Chichester FORTECUE of Dromisken, in the co Louth, Esq by the Hon Elizabeth WELLESLEY, sister of the first Earl of Mornington, and aunt to Marquis Wellesley and the Duke of Wellington. He was appointed Captain in the Navy, Nov. 2, 1780, and retired as a Rear Admiral, March, 5, 1799. He succeeded his brother Gerald FORTESCUE, Esq as King of Arms 31st January 1788. By his decease, compensation annuities amounting to £1021 5s (besides his pay as a Rear Admiral), reverts to the public purse. Sir William BETHAM, who has for many years acted as Deputy King of Arms, is now Ulster Principal King of Arms: his succession to that dignity on the demise of Sir C FORTESCUE, the late King, was not a matter of course, the Deputy being by no means Heir Apparent; but the honour was conferred upon him by his excellency the Lord Lieutenant, as a mark of special favour, in testamony of the appoving sense entertained by Government of the efficient manner in which he has hitherto discharged the duties of the office. All who know Sir William BETHAM, and how much the Office of Arms is indebted to his exertions, will applaud the descernment of his Excellency in bestowing the dignity of King of Arms, upon a Gentleman so well calculated to fill the station with honour to himself and advantage to the public. Rt Hon Chichester Samuel FORTESCUE Lord Carlingford14,31 was born on 18 January 1823 in Glyde, County Louth, Ireland. He was born in 1862. He took the surname Parkinson before his own, in compliance with the Will of Mr Parkinson Ruxton of Redhouse, who was married to his aunt and who left him his estate in Louth. He died on 30 January 1898 in Marseilles, France. Died on the way to a health resort on the Riviera Chichester was buried on 5 February 1898 in Chewton Priory, Somerset. From an Obituary Rt. Hon. Chichester Fortescue was educated at Christchurch College, Oxford. He took a First Class degree in 1844 and won the Chancellor's prize for English essay in 1846.

In July 1847 he was elected an M.P. for Co. Louth, and in January 1854, he was made Lord of the Treasury. From June 1857 to March 1858, and from June 1859 to Nov. 1865 he was Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies. In 1865 he was appointed Chief Secretary for Ireland until the Government resigned in 1866, but he was re-appointed under Gladstone in 1868 and had a seat in the Cabinet. He is recognised as having done a lot of hard work for Ireland for which Gladstone took credit.

In 1862 he took the surname Parkinson before his own, in compliance with the Will of Mr Parkinson Ruxton of Redhouse, who was married to his aunt and who left him his estate in Louth.

He was sworn in as a Privy Councillor at Windsor on 7th April 1864.

In January 1871 he became President of the Board of Trade until 1874, when he was created a Peer - Baron Carlingford.

In 1874 he was appointed Lord Lieutenant of Essex.

Anthony Trollope based the Character Phineas Phinn mainly on Chichester.

The Death took place at her late house "Sunnyside" Freeman's Reach on Friday last of Mrs Clara Simpson, widow of the late James Simpson, at the age of 67 years. The deceased lady had been living in the Hawkesbury districrt for about 10 years, succumbed after an illness of months duration. The remains were deterred in St Mathew's Church of England cemetery on Saturday. Among the mourners were (the) deceased's two sons Messers Francis and James Simpson; Mr Percy Fortescue, an ex-Sergeant of Police, of Scone (Brother): mr and Mrs Bert Fortescue, daughter, Mr Lionel Fortescue, Mr Charles Relph (son-inlaw) and friends. Rev Jenkyn R.D., conducted the in the church and at the graveside and Mr Chandler was the undertaker. At age 25 emigrated to Australia under assisted passage in the Seekirkshire in 1882 with her sister Ada, aged 22. (N.S.W.
