Home Surname List Name Index Sources | Seventeenth Generation61. On 6 August 1542 Baron Lewis FORTESCUE of Fallapit22 was a Baron of the Exchequer. He signed a will on 26 January 1543/4. He died in 1545. Lewis had his estate probated on 23 October 1545 in P.C.C (Pynnyng 38). Lewis, according to the text, was the 3rd son; it possibly means the 3rd legitimate son in view of the suggestion that one of the older Nicholas brothers was possibly a bastard. Lewis studied law and was appointed Reader of the Middle Temple in Autumn 1536. On 6th August 1542 he was made 4th Baron of the Exchequer under Henry VIII. He acquired Fallapit through his wife.
