Colonel in Infantry Charles died on 1 February 1951. Colonel Hon. Charles Granville Fortescue fought in the Burma War between 1888 and 1889. He was invested as a Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1899. He fought in the Boer War between 1899 and 1902. He was decorated with the Companion, Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1901. He was invested as a Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1911. He fought in the First World War. He was decorated with the Order of the White Eagle of Serbia (1st Class with Swords) He gained the rank of Colonel and Honorary Brigadier-General in the service of the Rifle Brigade
