1121. 3rd Earl Fortescue Hugh FORTESCUE117 was born on 4 April 1818. He died before April 1905. Hugh, Viscount Ebrington, succeeded his father, becoming the 3rd Earl Fortescue in 1861. He was M.P. for Marylebone from 1854 to 1859. He was summoned to the House of Lords in December 1859. The book "Looking Back" written by Seymour - Hugh's Son - is written In Chronological order and it says On page 8 "In the winter of 1859 my father, already Viscount Ebringham accompanied by his brother John, who had developed consumptive tendencies and was ordered abroad, by his doctors, to Madeira" (My comment is that Hugh was already a Lord so he could have been called to the Lords earlier in than on his father's death.) On page 10 "the winter of of 1860-61 was spent in Pau" On page 11 "During our stay at Pau my grandfather died and my parents settled down at Castle Hill, with 17 Brunton Street as our London House" (The above proves that Hugh's father didn't die in 1859 but doesn't prove conclusively that he died in 1861 - but it is quite probable).
