543. Colonel Robert FORTESCUE of Wear Gifford^24,71 was born in 1617. He was baptized on 14 September 1617 in Petrockstowe, Devon. He died about 1675/6. Robert signed a will on 12 January 1675/6. He had his estate probated on 5 January 1676/7 in P.C.C. (Bence 112). Colonel Robert Fortescue succeeded to his father's estates since his
older brother John died young. Robert had no male issue. His wife
Susannah was pregnant when he died, but the issue was a daughter. So
Arthur of Penwarne, his next brother, succeeded to the estates, namely
those in Devon, Somerset, Gloucestershire, and Wiltshire.
