His Grave was discovered during some excavatons by the Somerset House Historical Research Team, the Strand, London. Somerset House was the original, official residence for the British monarchy. The grave was discovered in the Dead Houses beneath the original Tudor Palace. The inscription roughly reads: To the memory of Edmund Fortescue Esq. Gentleman Usher of the Privy Chamber to her present Majesty Queen Catherine and the like to her late Majesty Queen Mother. The Third Son of Sir Nicolaus Fortesque of Cookehill in the County of (Woorcetr) Worcester. Knight who exchanged this life for Immortality the 7 of May 1674 in the 69 year of his age. |
