1375. Hugh FORTESCUE56 was born on 28 March 1891 in The Old House, Swavesey, Black Horse Lane, Cambridge. He appeared in the census in 1911 in 49 Rothes Rd, Dorking, Surrey. FORTESCUE, Hugh Boarder 1891 20 M Single Assistant School Teacher Swavesey, Cambs
He died on 8 June 1975 in Winchester, Hants. Hugh was buried in Holy Trinity Church, Southend-on-Sea, Essex. Went to school in Huntingdonshire at one time in Division 4 Class 1 then at St Peter's College Peterborough. He was awarded a prize for service in the year 1913. Served in the Bedford Yeomanry in WW1. in Belgium and France. Headmaster at Hamstel Road Junior Boys School, Southend-on-Sea from 1932 to 1943, (evacuated to Ripley, Derbyshire from 1940 to 1942), then Eastwood School (1943-46), then Wentworth Road Secondary Modern School until retirement in 1953.

Became Councillor of Southend-on-Sea and was on the Education Committee for over 25 years. Fortescue Chase, Thorpe Bay, was named after him. When his wife died he moved from 9 Daines Close, Thorpe Bay, Southend-on-Sea, to Kewlinga, 12 Heatherdene Road, Chandlers Ford, Eastleigh, Hants until his death. One of Nature's gentlemen

Hugh FORTESCUE and Ada Dorothy WADDINGTON were married on 29 December 1920 in Colchester, Essex. Ada Dorothy WADDINGTON56 was born on 19 September 1893 in 16 Annette Street, Gorbals, Glasgow, Scotland. She was baptized in 1894. She was confirmed on 6 March 1910 in St Mary at the Wall, Colchester, Essex. Ada was cremated in 1969 in Southend-on-Sea, Essex. She was cremated in 1969 in Holy Trinity Church, Southend-on-Sea, Essex. She died on 9 October 1969 in Southend-on-Sea, Essex. Grew up at 150 and 151 Butt Road, Colchester which is near the Army Barracks. When the younger siblings were born she went to live with Grandma. The houses were sold in 1946 and she got a quarter share through Isabella's will.

Trained as a teacher 1912 to 1914 at St Katherine's Clollege, Tottenham. Won a prize in 1914 her second year at College. Was engaged previously before marrying Hugh. Was in Southend 1919 - 20 from letters to Hugh. Taught as a relief teacher in Southend on Sea in 1925 to 1926. Taught in Buckinghamshire 1931 to 1932 and 1942 to 1956 Later taught at Thope Hall School until she died.
