1363. Hon Brig-Gen Francis Alexander FORTESCUE CB^87,168 was born on 10 April 1858. He died on 12 October 1942. Entered the Army in 1879. Served Afghan War in 1880 (Bronze Star, two clasps), Transvaal 1881, Egypt 1883-1888, S Africa 1896 (medal) and 1889-1909 despatches twice, Queens Medal , three clasps) and WW1 (Despatches twice, 1914-1915 Star, two medals.
Hon Brig-Gen, commanding 4th Battalion KRRC and was Colonel of the General Staff 1908 1909.

He retired to Devon with the rank of Brigadier General in 1918. He gave collection of Zulu items, mostly beadwork, to the Royal Albert Memorial Museum in 1935; although we do not know when he collected them, it is most likely to have been between 1908-10

Hon Brig-Gen Francis Alexander FORTESCUE CB and Maria Theresa JENKINSON were married on 25 June 1885. Maria Theresa JENKINSON was born in 1862. She died in 1935.
