622. Earl Clinton, Lord Fortescue Hugh FORTESCUE^71,87 was christened on 2 June 1665 in Mevagissey, Cornwall.⁸⁸ Parish Register He signed a will on 15 June 1714. He died on 25 November 1719.² Hugh had his estate probated on 16 February 1720 in P.C.C (Shaller 30). Hugh Fortescue of Filleigh was M.P. from 1689 to 1708, representing Tregony, Grampound and Truro, then Tregony and finally St Michael's, all Cornwall. Earl of Clinton, Ist Lord Fortescue

Earl Clinton, Lord Fortescue Hugh FORTESCUE and Bridget BOSCAWEN were married on 19 October 1692. They were cousins. Only daughter and heir. Bridget BOSCAWEN⁸⁷ died in 1708. First wife of Hugh. She was the only child of Lady Margaret Clinton daughter of Theophillus, twelfth Baron Clinton and 4 th Earl of Lincoln and the sole heiress.

715	i.	Margaret FORTESCUE87 was born on 1 March 1693. She was baptized on 3 April 1694 in St Michael Penkevil, Cornwall. She died in 1760. Died unmarried. The Barony came to Margaret after Hugh died but did not assume it . It went to Margaret Rolle, Countess of Orford upon her death.
716	ii.	Lord Hugh FORTESCUE 1st Baron Fortescue87 was born in 1695. He died on 3 May 1751. Named in his father's will. Created 1st Baron Fortescue of Castle Hill ( 5 th July 1749 ) with special remainder to his half brother (Matthew). Called to Parliament as 1st and last Earl Clinton. called to Parliament as 15 Mar 1720/21 as 14th Lord (Baron) Clinton a title he inherited from his maternal grandmother. Made Knight of the Bath in 1725 (Burke's). Changed the residence name from Filleigh to Castle Hill.
717	iii.	Bridget FORTESCUE was born in 1696. She died in 1743.
718	iv.	Arthur FORTESCUE87 was born in 1699. He died before 1705. This is assumed as a Second Arthur was born in 1705. Died in childhood
719	v.	Boscawen FORTESCUE87 was born in 1701. He died in 1717. No issue.
720	vi.	Robert FORTESCUE89 was born in 1703. Died in childhood
721	vii.	William FORTESCUE87 was born in 1704. Died in childhood
722	viii.	Arthur FORTESCUE87 was born in 1705. Died in childhood
723	ix.	Theophilus FORTESCUE MP for Barnstaple87 was born in 1707. He died in March 1745. No issue

Earl Clinton, Lord Fortescue Hugh FORTESCUE and Lucy AYLMER were married before June 1714.² Lucy AYLMER⁸⁷ was born about 1687. She died on 18 February 1767. Mentioned in husbands will. Died age 80 she was Hugh's second wife.
